Gay Pastor Welcome

In 2019, I was asked to participate in a project called "Gay Pastor Welcome".

The now Rev. Dr. Kevin Johnson, pastor of Bloom in the Desert Ministries, a church in Palm Springs, developed this project as part of his doctoral dissertation.  Each pastor was asked a series of questions, and our answers were recorded and uploaded to his website.

From the abstract:

Research and experience show, even though openly gay male pastors are not widely hired, they can be very positive for congregations. Lowering the cultural barriers to hiring gay male pastors will help churches grow stronger in God’s mission for good. By getting familiar with the people and resources on this website, congregations will find it easier to welcome gay male pastors and begin healthy and productive ministries together.

I liked this project because it was a place where out gay male pastors (these were the parameters of the study) could hear a variety of responses to common questions about ministry from pastors at various stages of their careers.

I think it's a good model for providing answers to lots of frequently asked questions by a variety of people to a variety of people. This model could be used in a variety of settings. â€‹â€‹
